back 2 skool insp - Sherilyn Fenn in "Just One Of The Guys"

Last night I watched One of the Guys (1989), which I had been stupidly skeptical about seeing but, despite the incorrect use of the term "transgender", am so glad I did.  I love 2006's She's The Man* (which I can credit the foundation of most of my inside-jokes to), but One Of The Guys delivered not only hilarity* and plot but also adorable edge-of-the-80's style. Which brings me to my next subject:

Sherilyn Fenn has been my #1 actress crush since I first saw her as Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks, and I was pleasantly surprised to see her make an appearance in this!

Her character Sandy's style is kind of a cuter and more put-together Madonna (circa Desperately Seeking Susan) look. Definitely edgy but still retaining that school-girl charm.

Hair/head accessorizing inspiration!

this uh-mazing prom dress.

*I feel like Hilarity is such a cheesy word so I apologize for using it *Also I assimilate the two movies only because I feel that She's The Man borrowed a lot from One of the Guys. One might go so far as to call it a re-make.

can we just take a moment to appreciate Melanie Laurent in Inglorious Basterds

or really, Melanie Laurent in everything. The sole entity that is Melanie Laurent.

I had seen Inglorious Basterds the year it came out in theaters, but revisited the Tarantino gem last Sunday morning. The rainy day called for anti-facism violence and Neil from Freaks and Geeks in one on-screen experience.

I enjoy everything about this movie. Melanie's make up montage still takes the cake.

Rookie Meet-Up

Last Saturday I co-hosted the ATX Rookie Meet-up with Illyana and Mirielle at the wonderful Domy Books space!

Taken by Savannah
There was sillyness, candy and collage making. The girls and I pooled our magazine collections together and everyone went to town on them, pasting cut-outs onto notebooks or simply pieces of construction paper. I didn't take any of my own photographs, but here are some courtesy of Paper Party, which is a darling paper goods store within the Domy building:

Also in the space is Olive Vintage, run by the lovely Laura, who was able to supply me with a pair of perfect woven ankle boots (more on those later) when the strap on my wedge shoe snapped off!
Everyone at the Domy space was so gracious and charming. I think I've found my new favorite store there, which is filled with an assortment of curios, comics, handmade beauties and a rad selection of books. It was so incredibly generous of them to host the meet up, especially considering it was there first day officially open for business!
