So recently I've been on a Twin Peaks netflix binge. Among the many amazing sets on this program, one of my favorites is the beautiful granny-chic decor of One Eyed Jacks; a casino/brothel just over the Canadian border. Although the intentions of the establishment may be sketchy, the asthetics of the place are just stunning. Even the hookers have darling poker-themed linguire! I was inspired to create, on blogsphere, my idea of a club where these gals can be their gorgeous selves in the company of each other.
EXHIBIT A: Ladiez On the Guest List
1. Audrey Horne of Twin Peaks
This really goes without saying. Audrey is definitely my favorite TP character, not only because of her classic femme fatal nature and beauty, but also because of her layered emotions and tendencies. As the show progresses, we discover that behind the suave voice, red lipstick and curvy smiles, she is still a small town, attention-craving eighteen year old with strong, adolescent desires and natural fears of being regular.
2. Susan of Desperately Seeking Susan
Madonna was pretty much at the height of her New York-gritty enchantment stage in the mid 80's. In this role she played Susan, a counter-culture trashique queen with a knack for trouble who is in the midst of spending her twenties apartment hopping in lacy thigh-highs, hair ribbons, studded anklet boots and leather jackets, cigarette held between banana-yellow fingernails.
3. Wanda Woodward of Cry Baby
The most spit-fire drape babe the world has ever known, Wanda is the cherry-lipped, sharp-tongued bombshell of her Baltimore high school. You know her; you might see her smoking under the bleachers after class, surrounded by studmuffin guys in leather jackets, winging her eyes jet black in the girls' restroom or hitching a ride to the jukebox jambouree for a friday night bop n' rock. She is rebellious and immature, sexy and intimidating all in one fiery package.
4. Dorothy of Blue Velvet
Another David Lynch curation, Isabella Rosellini plays this emotionally mangled Italian starlet. Like many of Lynch's female characters, Dorothy is of a complex and at times disturbing nature, indulging in a secretive relationship with a younger man (hellooo Kyle MachLachlan) while caught captive in a mob boss's S&M fantasy. Regardless of her inner turmoil, Rosellini is nevertheless a captivating vision while crooning Blue Velvet before a satin curtain, raven locks curled wildly around her head while dark eyes stare into a deep eternity in longing.
5. Watts of Some Kind of Wonderful
Amanda Jones, Shmamanda Shmones. If ever I were to have a dream girl it would be Watts, the punk rock, drum-playing, finger-glove rockin' babe who is continuously friend-zoned by the oblivious Keith. In addition to her no-bullshit attitude and bleach-blonde boy cut, Watts's taste in clothing is as righteously gritty as her taste in music and, well, boys. Watts manages to pull off cute and grungy with a hint of butch in leather jackets, frayed cut-off jeans, bandanas, stud earings, whitewash jeans and dog tags while hitting the snare.
